Adam Ant – why not!
This week we went to see Adam Ant on his first tour for 15 years! I love Adam & the Ants, even though their heyday was a couple of years before my time really, but Rob was a huge fan when he was a kid and never got to see him back then, so it was all quite excitin’ really!
There are no Ants these days, just the Good, the Mad and the Lovely Posse! They played the O2 in the main room, and there was the most random mix of people in the audience! Obviously lots of lifelong fans and people in their 40s and 50s, but a lot of youngsters and students too, and even a lot of not-so young people, like me – but still a bit too young to have been a proper fan first time round…which is good. Adam appeals to all!
I did manage to get a rather sad total of three pictures of the gig – all of which came out terribly! So the following five images have been used with the very kind permission of Dan Doughty (otherwise known as skinnyboychubbs) a fellow Ant person who has an amazing set of 80 pictures of the gig on Flickr. He has captured the atmosphere and spirit of the gig perfectly and must have had a far more steady hand than me. To check out the rest of Dan’s pics, you can find the whole set here, it’s well worth a look -

This was the set list – Plastic Surgery, Dog Eat Dog, Beat My Guest, Kick, Cartrouble, Zerox, Deutscher Girls, Stand and Deliver, Catholic Day, Kings of the Wild Frontier, Wonderful, Antmusic, Never Trust A Man (With Egg on his Face), Cleopatra, Goody Two Shoes, Vive Le Rock, Christian D’or and Lady/Fall In
And the Encore – Prince Charming, Press Darlings, Get It On, No Fun and Physical (You’re So)
My personal favourites were Dog Eat Dog, Xerox, Deutscher Girls, Christian D’or, Press Darlings, Prince Charming and Vive Le Rock.
This YouTube clip of Vive Le Rock is also not mine unfortunately. I did take a few videos on my phone, but they weren’t this good! This is by ‘Cliverocks25′ who also has some other excellent clips of the gig.

Adam ripped his shirt off duing ‘Physical’ – unfortunately I missed the actual ripping of the shirt as I was in the loo (bad timing or what) but what a treat when I got back to see him looking like this…
The gig was AMAZING and the songs were interspersed with random anecdotes, and one-liners from Adam.
As we left, I heard a woman say to her friend ‘He exceeded my expectations’.
Seeing Adam prompted us to get all the old stuff out of the loft at the weekend! There were MANY treasures up there, such as…
And…
Also lots of magazines, fanzines, posters, annuals and stuff…
Some random ads…
Should we bring this mug back into general use?
There was loads of other stuff, including a scarf. But my favourite thing was this poster from the Strip LP. It’s pristine! It never made it onto Rob’s bedroom wall, oddly enough. It would have made it onto mine. Wooop! Feel like I want to frame it and have it in the front room.
On that note…………… x
