Old birthday cards

December 23, 2010

I’ve been looking through some old birthday cards that I found at my M&D’s house last time I went back. My Mum kept them all in an envelope. They’re from my 1st and 2nd birthdays, so they’re quite old, which is how I feel today! (32) Here’s a small selection of cards from my 1st birthday (you got more cards back then its a fact!) -

1 to-day, Creative Cards, printed in Scotland

Age 1 - Creative Cards, printed in England...interesting

Blue knitted rabbit, by Raphael Tuck

White rabbit, Hallmark

Siamese cat, Image Arts of England

A rabbit and a mouse in a boat, Sharpe's Classic

Polly Pig, Sharpe's Classic

Rabbit and bluebird, Sharpe's Classic (a popular choice)

Baby girl, A.Mason & Co. Ltd

Elephant raises a glass with trunk, Angel cards

Dog, cat and bird, maker unknown

This is my favourite one (below) its a textile one with embroidery on it, by Hallmark, and it folds out! Its from my Nan and Grandad.

Elephant, giraffe and friends, Hallmark

There's also clowns, ice-cream and cake

And look at this one! I bet you wouldn’t be able to buy any cards with this sort of picture on the front anymore.

Crisp eating on the beach, Angel Cards

Here are a few of the 2nd birthday cards…

Mary had a little lamb, Universal Greetings Ltd

Humpty Dumpty, Universal Greetings Ltd

Grey dog, Your Cards

Toys, Raphael Tuck

The following two are my favourites from the 2nd birthday cards, the cat and dog one is from my Nan, and the duck one is from my Nan and Grandad. I like the way the duck looks quite irritable and I also like the shoes she is wearing.

There were loads of other cards in the bag aswell, I will scan more soon. Laterz. x

Wowee!! Fantastic collection of cards! They’re all fabby, they really remind me of being little… I don’t have ANY cards from when I was little, my mum wasn’t that sentimental unfortunately, I think she might have kept them for a bit but had a massive chuck-out when she and Dad retired to Scotland…
Yes, all the bunnies!! I love all the bunny cards and I love that cat card, the brown one with the yellow braid around the outside, lovely!
Oh and the blue ellie with the glass of martini, nice! Booze fer baby! :D

There’s a definite bunny theme going on for age 1! Card design has come a long way.. But these do have a certain warmth about them. Great post love Xx
