Are we down-hearted? No!

May 22, 2010

This is prob getting a bit boring for anyone who reads this, but I feel the need to share more purchases with you. It’s nothing very exciting, but we went to some junk/antique shops last weekend, and as usual I felt the need to snap up a few more random things to decorate the house with.

Crown Ducal Ware 'Little Pedro'

I got a Crown Ducal ‘Little Pedro’ vase from Langtons, which I think is either 50s or 60s, there’s loads of them about if you look on Ebay and stuff.

The donkey I like

I think these vases may have been given away with Ringtons Tea at one point as they bear the Ringtons logo on the bottom. I just like the painting of the donkey, and the little cacti!

The bottom of the vase

Also from Langtons, we got a Lloyd Loom ‘Lusty’ laundry basket.  It’s not in great condition, but we liked it anyway.

Lloyd Loom linen bin

‘Lusty’s’ was the original Lloyd Loom making company in the UK, started up in the 20s.

Open lid

Wicker weave

In the bin

I think this laundry bin might have a been a couple of different colours during it’s lifetime, I can see both pink and white paint on it, and the lid seems to have been covered in a delightful floral fablon!

Lid

Dare I remove the florals?

I don’t know whether to try and peel the fablon off or not. The lid looks blue underneath. I kind of want to, but what if it’s really sticky and won’t come off properly?!

Pink paint and white paint

There is a date stamp on the bottom of the bin, but I can’t really make out the date very well. It looks like 17th May, but not sure about the year…

The date?

There is more information about Lusty’s Lloyd Loom, and it’s history at The East London History website.

At Alfreton Antiques Centre on Sunday, we saw a bizarre framed print of a wedding scene – a lion and a lioness getting hitched.  Look how bizarre it is!

Are we downhearted?

The image is a print of what seems to be a series of wedding themed postcards from the 1909.  I’ve found some similar images featuring cats and dogs on the Card Cow website.  ‘Are we Downhearted’? is a war time song (WW1) Click here to listen! Not sure where we’re going to put the pic yet, maybe in the front room somewhere.

Here are some flowers/weeds in our garden at the mo…

Bluebells

Bell blue

Aquilegias - I think? They came last year, but in white!

Purple petals

Got loads of these too, like hundreds of them…

Dandy Lion

Our friend Mary gave us a pea plant a couple of weeks ago.  It was really tiny, but I’ve put it in a bigger pot and it’s grown really fast, and now we’ve got our first pea on it! Thanks Mary for our pea plant!

Our first pea

This week I have made my first ever Treasury on Etsy, a cat themed one, coz I like cats.

Do you like cats?

If you like any of the cat themed things, you can view them in more detail here.

I was just having another nosey around your blog.
I must say I envy your laundry basket.
It’s pretty perfect. Laundry baskets are usually so boring.
    Lucky you.
    See you!
    Elodie.

You find the most mental stuff, Ms George!! How do you do it?? You must have special eyes… ;-)

You know the plastic stuff with flowers on the laundry basket?? Well, if it just over something like Formica, and if the covering it peelable, then any sticky residue will come off with WD40. Have you tried that for removing stickiness left by labels on CDs, books with shiny covers etc?? It’s truly wondrous stuff. Not only water displacement, but stickiness displacement!!

Hey look, you’ve got peas! You know what, I’d eat them as mangetout if they were ok for that… I love mangetout.

And yes, well remembered, they are aquilegias, or columbines (which is the ‘common’ name for them). Greenfly go mad for them in our garden.

    hugs
    Joey xxx
