Origami, not with Ziggy, with Joey

May 17, 2009

On Saturday I went to Joey’s Origami workshop at the library.

Next month she is doing an Origami workshop at the Sheffield Pride festival at Endcliffe Park, and this was a tester workshop in preparation! I’ve never done any Origami before, not since I was a child anyway, but my favourite Origami memory is of when Ziggy came over to my Nan and Grandads house when me and my sister were little, and he made us some swans out of envelopes, which were really cool. He lived opposite and was a Polish prince, or that’s what we were told anyway.

The workshop was 2 hours long and quite a few people came along…Vyctoria, Zoe, Julia, Louise, Claire and her son Elliot, and Joey’s sister-in-law Kelly and her son Theo, who had hurt his arm and managed to paperfold single-handedly! Very impressive!

Joey was a very patient teacher, waiting for the slow ones (me!) and demonstrating every step on her ‘board’ on the wall. I think it definitely helped to be able to follow every fold step by step, and I think I did much better than I would have done if I’d been trying to learn the basics straight from a book.

By the end of the workshop I was quite surprised at what I had actually managed to make…some boxes, a crane, a waterbomb and a samurai hat!

We all had a good time and received a brilliant hand-out to take away with cute illustrations and step by step guides so we don’t forget what we learned, and I’ve taken some paper so I can attempt to make something on my own! If I manage to make anything good I will let you know!

And lastly, Happy Birthday to our beautiful neice, Millie, who celebrated her 1st birthday on Saturday! She’s started walking and she’s got her 1st two teeth aswell! We miss you Millie and love you XXX

    Hi Janine,
we really enjoyed it on Saturday and it was nice to see you again. Theo is thrilled to be mentioned on your blog and thinks he is becoming famous as a one handed origami master! I sent one of your cards to a friend at work and she absolutely loved it, thank you. Joey’s booklet was beautiful wasn’t it, I have been showing it to everyone. Will come and say hello at next craft fair and get some more cards!!
